Dear visitor,
welcome to my website. It describes the thrill of private history exploration using a metal detector.
This website describes exploration and discovery of historical items and places. Besides descriptions of my own detector search various articles and comments related to the world of private historical discovery are included. It was set up to be enjoyed by all those who like to go out and experience the adventure history first hand.
Over the years I have found many historical places and items ranging from Roman coins and fibulas to a cannon ball of Napoleon to cached rifles of World War 2. All finds have been carefully fotographed. The best are shown on the following pages. Many come with the full find story.
The searches took place in Central Europe, especially Germany and Bavaria. Special emphasis is placed on battlefield metal detecting and military archaeology ranging from Napoleon to 1945.
All finds were made with a Garrett GTI 2500 metal detector, usually with a 12 inch coil.
More than 500 pictures help to get a vivid idea of the past. Please click on the pictures to enlarge. An accessibility version is available by clicking on “Text Version” in the top right corner. Also in the top right corner, next to the magnifying glass symbol, is the full text search field.
More than 300 pages provide content for all tastes. You can browse through the find picture catalogue or enjoy detailed search reports including find maps. And you can read about realistic find chances of classic treasures like Cocos Island or biblical finds like the Ark of the Covenant.
Regards, Thorsten Straub, Munich
